A partnership approach to breeding corn has been taken by Mr. Goldstein for over 50 growing seasons.  It is based on applying biodynamic, organic, indigenous, and conventional perspectives and breeding practices to crosses between ancient and modern varieties.  Results are plant varieties with competitive yields, but with enhanced nutritional density in grain and ability to perform better with less fertilizer inputs.  Many of the results are due to the co-evolution of the plants with bacterial symbionts that help the plant to produce with less fertilizer, to avoid stress, and to produce higher nutritional-value products.
