Nourish Colorado
Speaker Bio
Wendy is the Executive Director of Nourish Colorado, a Denver-based, statewide-focused organization that strengthens connections with and between farms, ranches, and communities so that all Coloradans have equitable access to fresh, nutritious foods. Nourish coordinates statewide initiatives that increase fresh foods in public institutions and produce access for participants in nutrition assistance programs such as SNAP and WIC. Nourish also mobilizes state and federal policy advocacy to make this work the norm in our country. In her current position, Wendy actively works on state and federal policy priorities that advance Nourish’s mission and collaborates with hundreds of partners across the state and nation to get policies passed that build a more equitable, resilient food system. Wendy has worked to pass state policies that have created the Colorado Food Systems Advisory Council, the Local Food Program in Colorado Department of Education, the state Healthy Food Incentive Fund, and the new Community Food Access Program at the Colorado Department of Agriculture. On the federal level, Wendy has mobilized Coloradans to help pass significant reforms and increases in local and regional food systems programs, particularly in the 2018 farm bill. Prior to this position, Wendy was a social worker, a project manager for rivers and watersheds initiatives, a coordinator for a research project on community gardens, a manager for a healthy school’s coalition, and she ran her own food policy consulting firm for six years. Wendy currently holds appointed positions on the Colorado Food Systems Advisory Council and the board of the National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition. She is a former board member of Boulder Food Rescue and the Colorado Extension Advisory Committee. She is kept super busy by her three kids, husband, and many animals who reside with her.
